Union Apartments - Olympia, WA

QG worked with a local developer in Olympia, WA to inform the design and construction of a new multistory apartment complex in the downtown area. QG conducted a geotechnical investigation to determine preexisting site soil conditions utilizing advanced in-field Cone Penetration and provided detailed technical reports providing information about liquefaction, piles, slab design, stormwater, and sewer construction recommendations for use in and around the facility. Ultimately, the project design team elected to utilize GeoPiers for foundation support, utilizing our soil information to complete their design. Additionally, QG was retained to provide soil inspections for the construction.

Station 24 - Lakewood, WA

New construction and additions are planned to an existing Fire & Rescue Station in Lakewood, WA. A soil investigation was conducted to evaluate soil to inform foundation feasibility and infiltration conditions for new construction. QG provided subsurface exploration and site characterization. A hollow stem auger was used to perform drilling activities for a combined 200 feet of vertical boring along with Standard Penetration Testing. Additionally, QG conducted in-field California Bearing Ratio (CBR) testing. Exploration logs documented encountered soil and groundwater conditions at each test location using standard USCS descriptions. QG analyzed and interpreted laboratory testing to determine engineering characteristics and relevant design parameters of site soils. QG provided geotechnical recommendations for earthwork, new required HMA sections for asphalt improvements, soil conditions, foundation preparations and stormwater infiltration feasibility.

Rich Masters Subdivision - Centralia, WA

QG performed a geotechnical investigation for an undeveloped 15-acre site. The geotechnical consultation conducted was to evaluate soil, pavement, and infiltration conditions for a proposed subdivision. Additionally, QG was retained to provide soil inspections for the subdivision construction. QG conducted test pit investigations to evaluate soil for foundation feasibility, pavement, earthwork and stormwater infiltration conditions for new construction. QG analyzed and interpreted laboratory testing to include Modified Proctor analysis to determine engineering characteristics and relevant design parameters of site soils. Dynamic Cone Pentrrometer testing was utilized to evaluate soils for density and bearing capacities. QG conducted soil compaction testing for the subdivision. These inspections were completed by using a portable soil density gauge, standard T-probe, and proof roll.

Lynch Creek Road Improvements - Eatonville, WA

QG conducted a geotechnical consultation to evaluate Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) pavement section conditions of an existing 1.75 mile stretch of road in Eatonville, WA to improve or replace portions of the roadway to accommodate planned increase to traffic loads. QG coordinated logistics of traffic control measures, GeoProbe Direct Push borings, and other field investigations. GeoProbe borings consisted of 25 borings each to a depth of 5-feet below the roadway. QG conducted 20 tests utilizing a coring drill to remove the asphalt and conduct California Bearing Ration (CBR) testing in the field. Upon completion, QG patched the coring locations. QG utilized existing conditions, geologic literature, laboratory and data results obtained from GeoProbe and CBR values to engineering characteristics and relevant design parameters of site soils, including analysis of infiltration feasibility and recommendations for earthwork and new required HMA section minimums for the proposed roadway improvements. The client supplied QG with roadway loading parameters such as ESALs, growth rate and relevant parameters in order for QG to design or repair sections of the road in accordance with AASHTO design parameters

Harstine Heights - Shelton, WA

Following a landslide within a coastal residential property, QG performed a geotechnical investigation to inform the retrofit design of new pin pile foundations to reinforce and support the existing luxury home that had been displaced. QG conducted a geotechnical investigation and landslide hazard assessment to determine site slope factors of safety, coordinated a combined 125-foot geotechnical drilling expedition, and provided detailed technical reports providing information about slope stability, piles, pavement design, and drainage construction recommendations for use in rebuffing the property.
